Cam McCollum WebsitesFree check

How it works

From first chat to live, in plain English.

Every client goes through the same steps. You always know what's next and who's doing it, and most of it you can do in your own time.

  1. A free check of your current site

    Me

I look at your current website from the outside: security, how it shows up in Google and AI assistants, whether your Google listing matches it, and whether the software and settings behind it are being maintained. You get the findings in plain English.

  2. Honest advice and a quote

    Me, then you

Sometimes the right answer is to stay where you are. If so, I'll say so, and tell you what to tidy up on the platform you have. If a new site will genuinely leave you better off, you get a written plan, split into what I do and what you do, with a fixed quote. Nothing starts until you accept it.

  3. Your private workspace

    You

You get a private online workspace with no password to remember: you sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. It holds a short set of questions about your business, services, photos and tone, and saves as you type.

  4. Your accounts, step by step

    You, then me

Your website lives in free accounts in your own name: Cloudflare, GitHub and Google Analytics. Your workspace walks you through creating each one, click by click, with a picture of every screen. You type every password and accept every agreement, then add me as a helper. From there, I do the rest of the set-up.

  5. A draft for your approval

    Me, then you

If you have a site, I carry across what works and fix what doesn't. If you're starting fresh, you choose a style first. Either way, you see the whole draft in your workspace on your phone and computer, and approve each page or tell me what to change.

  6. Cut-over day

Both of us, about 30 minutes

Your email is protected first: its settings are copied and tested before anything changes. Then, together, live: I give you the exact values to enter and show you where, check everything works as it switches over, and turn off the old site. You get your owner space.

  7. 30 days of care, included

    Me

For the first 30 days after launch, I watch the site every day and fix anything that is broken or not as agreed, at no cost.

  8. An optional care plan

    Your choice

After 30 days, you can keep me on for ongoing care, or not. If you leave, you get a short list of steps to remove my access. Everything is already in your name, so there's nothing to transfer.

What you'll be asked to do

  • Answer the questions in your workspace, in as many sittings as you like.
  • Create three free accounts in your name, following the step-by-step guide in your workspace, and add me as a helper.
  • Approve the draft, page by page.
  • Be on hand for about 30 minutes on cut-over day to enter your new domain settings with me.

What you'll never be asked to do

  • Give me your passwords.
  • Touch DNS records, Search Console, Bing, code or hosting settings.
  • Learn a website builder.

Common questions

Do I own my website?

Yes. Your website, domain and every account it uses (Cloudflare, GitHub and Google) are created in your name. I'm added as a helper, and you can remove me at any time.

Do you need my passwords?

No. You create your own accounts with your own passwords, following the step-by-step guides in your workspace, then add me as a helper.

How much does a website cost?

A fixed quote, agreed before work starts: $990 to rebuild a website you already have, or $1,490 for a new website if you don't have one yet. No GST is added. The first 30 days of care after launch are included, and the care plan after that is optional at $75 a year.

What does the care plan cover?

It's $75 a year, and optional. Mostly it's a security watch: every new vulnerability that could affect your website, domain, hosting or the code it's built with is checked against your site within 24 hours of being made public. If it affects you, I fix it or tell you exactly who to contact and what to ask, and every month you get a short summary of what was checked. It also covers updates, uptime checks, your owner space, small changes, and help with other small jobs.

What does it cost to run once it's built?

There's no monthly hosting bill or platform fee. For most small businesses the only running cost is the domain you already pay for.

Can I update it myself?

Yes. You get an owner space where you can change prices, hours and contact details and publish articles, from your phone or computer, without learning a website builder.

Will my email keep working when the site changes over?

Yes. Your email is protected first: its settings are copied and tested before anything changes on cut-over day.

Will ChatGPT and Gemini suggest my business?

Nobody can promise that. What I can do is make every page readable to AI assistants, keep your business details consistent everywhere, and test what the assistants say about you. The free check includes asking them.

What if I want to leave?

You get a short list of steps to remove my access. Everything is already in your name, so there's nothing to transfer.

How quickly do you reply?

Within two business days.
